We are excited to announce that the latest version of Portworx Backup 2.8.3 is now Generally Available. The new version of Portworx Backup 2.8.3 is amazing because it offers enhanced security, improved performance, and new features that make backup and restore operations more efficient and reliable.
Why this new release?
SMTP TLS Support:
Enables customers to specify TLS-based SMTP servers for alerts and notifications.
Supports SMTP configuration using custom certificates for establishing a TLS-based connection.
Parallel Schedule Backups:
Allows subsequent schedule backups to start even when the previous backup is still uploading to S3/NFS.
This feature is supported only on PXE Cloudsnap-based backups.
Health Check for Install & Upgrade:
Introduces health checks as preventive measures to avoid install/upgrade failures.
Checks include storage space availability, post-install hook deletion, and image availability in the registry.
This feature significantly improves customer experience by preventing unnecessary escalations and ensuring the backup application remains operational.
Compatibility
Supports Kubernetes versions 1.31.x, 1.30.x, 1.29.x.

Upgrade Recommendations
Upgrade to Portworx Backup 2.8.3 from versions 2.6.0, 2.7.x, or 2.8.x.
Ensure that you go through the instructions in the Configure access to user interface section before upgrade.
Caveats
Parallel schedule backups are not supported for FADA and FBDA volumes.
Local Restore workflow is not available via UI.
