Portworx CSI 25.1.0 is now GA!

We are excited to announce that the latest version of Portworx CSI (PX CSI 25.1.0) is now Generally Available. The new version of Portworx CSI is a reduced footprint version of Portworx software that customers can use with Pure Storage FlashArray and FlashBlade.

Why the new PX-CSI 25.1.0?

  • Position Pure as the leader for container data management with flexible deployment options.
  • Build a superior CSI offering for Pure FA/FB customers that is differentiated from competitors.
  • Leverage production-tested Portworx Control plane for scale and operational consistency while providing a “choice” in Datapath/Storage architecture.
  • Focused on bringing native FA capabilities sooner to Kubernetes workloads.

Key Highlights

  • “Lightweight” install with CSI only components and no dependencies on PX-Storage
  • Enables simplified and faster installation and consumes fewer system resources.
  • Early Access of the FlashArray Direct Access RWX Block Volumes capability.
  • Allows customer to benefit from the existing Portworx Control Plane integrations
    • For Scale, Resiliency and Kubernetes Upgrades.
    • For management of FADA and FBDA volumes.

Ideal deployment Scenarios

  • Targeted towards the storage admins.
  • The storage backend consists of Pure FA/FB only.
  • Intended for small-medium production scale.
  • Raw I/O Performance is a key driver.

Compatibility

  • PX-CSI 25.1.0 will be supported with Operator 24.2.1.
  • Only FADA & FBDA storage classes will be created by Operator.
  • Default behavior is to disable Stork & Autopilot. However, Operator is not enforcing this behavior and editing the STC to enable this is still allowed. (This will be enforced in the next Operator version).

Usage Instructions

Upgrade Recommendations

  • PX CSI 25.1.0 is intended for newer deployments.

Caveats

  • Flashblade only installs require manually provisioned KVDB drives.
  • Manual runbook driven approach for migrating existing PX-CSI customers to PX-CSI 25.1.0.
  • Separate release process and versioning scheme from PX-Enterprise.
