Hello Everyone,
We are excited to announce that Portworx Backup 2.11.0 is now Generally Available! This release focuses on scalable, resilient backups and restores for large Kubernetes and VM environments, granular recovery options, and a more flexible admin experience for backup administrators.
Key features
- Structured Kubernetes resource layout for backups: A new structured layout for backup resources improves scalability and reliability for large clusters, reduces memory consumption during backup operations, enables partial backups and selective resource restores, and performs a one-time cleanup of stale backup artifacts created during mixed-version upgrades.
- Granular restore from namespace backups: You can now restore specific namespaces or individual resources within a namespace from an existing namespace backup, with configurable source–destination mapping (namespaces, StorageClasses, and Rancher projects) and defined concurrency limits to optimize performance on large restores.
- File and folder restore for virtual machines: Restore individual files or folders directly from a VM backup back to the same VM, with configurable restore paths (original or alternate), partition-aware behavior, and compatibility with supported Linux distributions, file systems, and SELinux modes. File/folder restores are processed sequentially for stability and consistency.
- Enhanced VM restore workflows: Restore individual VMs (including associated resources) using Default Restore (no mapping needed) or Custom Restore (with namespace, StorageClass, and Rancher project mapping), integrated with the new file/folder restore capabilities for VM backups.
- More flexible backup policies and schedules: Configure Volume Resource-Only (VRO) policies directly from the Portworx Backup UI to back up only PVC/PV specs without underlying data, and dynamically adjust namespace/VM label selectors and resource filters on existing schedules so you can refine backup scope without recreating schedules.
These are just the highlights; there are additional enhancements, fixes, and known issues documented in the release notes linked below.
